Your Town-Go Red Event By Kathleen Giordano







On Wednesday February 7, 2007, the Eighth Annual, American Heart Association's Women with Heart Luncheon was held in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on Park Avenue in Manhattan. The Luncheon was presented by the NYU Cardiac and Vascular Institute in Association with Women's Day Magazine.The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was a sea of red clothing, pins, and accessories. One thousand attendees were present, including leaders in the fashion, business, and health industries. Many hopeful and inspired individuals from surrounding communities also came out to show their support for a change in the number one killer of New York women. The afternoon started off with a charming champagne reception and silent auction, followed by a friendly heart-healthy lunch with an educational presentation by renowned speakers.The afternoon's emcee was Rosanna Scotto from FOX 5 News at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Rosanna has been a reporter since the early 1980's where she began in Atlanta. After returning to her native New York, she was a host of a national television morning talk show and eventually settled into her permanent home at FOX 5 News in 1986. Rosanna has traveled the world covering different stories.The 2007 Luncheon Honorees were The Reverend Calvin Butts and Patricia Butts. Mr. and Mrs. Butts represent the Abyssinian Church in Harlem, NY. Norma Keller, MD of Bellevue Medical Center, Gail Blanke, author and executive Coach and entrepreneur, Jane Chesnutt, Editor of Woman's Day magazine. All honoree's stood and gave inspiring and motivational speeches to encourage all to take a closer look at the rate that heart disease is affecting women of New York. Go Red for Women is the American Heart Associations national call for women. What once began as a small campaign has grown into a national awareness movement. Many political figures, celebrities, men and women are all joining together to make a difference in this movement.
