The Lighthouse International for the blind and visually impaired celebrated its black tie Centennial fundraiser with its 2006 Winternight Gala at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on Wednesday, February 15, 2006.
This year's host of the Centennial was Mike Wallace with Ari Fleischer acting as co-host.The Lighthouse saluted the Centennial Family - the family of Sol and Lillian Goldman and their Centennial Partner, Novartis Ophthalmics, and Lighthouse Legends: Melissa L. Cohn, Flemming Ornskov, Gary Shapiro, Christina Johnson, Bill Blass, Michael Kors, Isaac Mizrahi, Oscar de la Renta, John G. Ledes, Guy Peyrelongue, Liz Tilberis, Lawrence J. Aiken, Annette Green, Shirley Lord Rosenthal, Judith Peabody and Audrey Hepburn.Founded in 1905 by sisters Winifred and Edith Holt, Lighthouse International is the leading resource all over the world on helping people of all ages overcome the challenges of vision loss.Vision impairment is on the rise, and there are 16.5 million Americans 45 and older who are visually impaired. That number is growing at an alarming rate and will reach 20 million in less than five years.The Winternight Gala is a highlight of Lighthouse International's year-long Centennial celebration, reinforcing their leadership role and setting the stage for providing much-needed vision services over the next century.Over the years, Winternight, a popular evening of dining and dancing, has raised millions of dollars in support of the Lighthouse mission.The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm and dinner follows at 7:30 pm.
