Village Care of New York (VCNY) "Legends of the Village Benefit was held at the Strata in Manhattan this past November 14, 2005. Renowned Singer/Songwriter Lesley Gore was honored with the William F. Passannante Award for her many contributions to the entertainment field and the New York Community by VCNY President and CEO Arthur Webb. Ms. Gore sang her favorite hits "It?s My Party and "You Don?t Own Me and had the guests on their feet, cheering, dancing and singing right along with her!Village Care of New York is a community-based, not-for-profit service organization serving the elderly, persons living with AIDS, and individuals in need of medical and rehabilitation services. VCNY mission is creating a caring and supportive environment in which all of those served, including their families and partner?s, are respected for their uniqueness.Chris Hamel of RBC Dain Rauscher was also recognized and received the Distinguished Service Award. Edward Gold, a village resident with more than 50- years, received the Lenore Zola Award for community service. Also honored and featured in Village Care of New York?s "2006 Legends Calendar included: E.L. Doctorow, acclaimed novelist, Marian Seldes, Tony award-winning actress, John and Mark Sebastian, singer/songwriters, Karl Bissinger, celebrity photographer, Reverend Daniel Berrigan, priest, peace activist, author and poet; Margo Jefferson, Pulitzer prize-winning cultural critic, teacher and performer; Joyce Gold, New York City historian; Frank McCourt, Pulitzer prize-winning author; Rollerena, New York icon; Jane Alexander, actress and humanitarian; Estelle Parsons, actress and director; and David McReynolds, peace activist and political leader. All funds raised from this benefit will support VCNY?s geriatric services including Village Nursing Home, two adult day health centers, two senior information centers and out-patient rehabilitation and wellness center and The Village at 46th and Ten, an assisted living residence for older adults in New York City
